What are Cold-Frames and Cloches? Cold-frames are low, box-like structures with transparent lids that can be opened or closed. They are constructed of steel with a powder coat finish to a choice of colour, placed directly over the soil. Cloches, on the other hand, are small, portable greenhouse structures that can be placed over individual plants or rows of plants. Both cold-frames and cloches serve the primary purpose of trapping heat, protecting plants from frost, and providing a controlled environment conducive to plant growth.
